Camp, Santa Cruz, and Latin

Just to reiterate: camp was awesome. I met a lot of awesome people too. I helped be a pirate for the senior casino night, went swimming with the little ones, beat the other counselors at go-cart races, made smoothies at the pool party, and helped serve food at the water slides. I also had a lot of fun with all of the counselors and staff after the kids went to sleep. I hope I am still with the foundation and can go next year. If so, I hope to maybe get certified as a lifegaurd so I can stay all week. That would be awesome.

Oh, and although it loses some of it's humor being written... the best joke ever...

"Why is the brown chicken and the brown cow the hottest couple on the farm?"
"brownchicken browncow" (to the toon of "bowchicca wow wow).

After spending the week in the sun, and then Thursday at the waterslides I was craving the beach, so Saturday afternoon Marc and I decided to go to Santa Cruz. There are closer beaches, but my aunt and cousin were staying there and said we could stay in the hotel with them, so we headed over. Sunday we spend all afternoon at the beach and I got the oddest sunburn. I am burned in patches throughout my body, I don't know, go figure. Although i was stupid enough to not put on enough sunscreen. "oh yeah, I can go 5 hours in the hot sun at the beach with just one application of 30 spf suntan lotion and not get burned" - right... We had fun though.

Yesterday I had my first Latin "class." Nichole and I decided to take Latin for fun at the local adult school. Hopefully it will be a fun and educational experience. The class isn't very structured, which takes some getting use to since we are straight out of college.

This also means I haven't read in a while!

Just got back from Camp

I just got back from our organization's yearly camp. It was awesome. I hope I can do it next year. Maybe I will get lifegaurd certified next year and stay all week. I had a great time and met some great people!

So needless to say I haven't read anything in over a week. I need to it!

All Soul's Night - Jennifer Armintrout

All Soul’s Night – the 4th book in Jennifer Armintrout’s “Blood Ties” Series came out earlier this week. Carrie and Nathan must go back home to take care of the Soul Eater once and for all. Carrie and Nathan’s relationship is on rocky ground in the beginning of the book, as Carrie is getting over Cyrus’s death and Nathan leaves her to find his son.

Soon after, Carrie, Nathan, and Max are joined with a new face and some old one’s as they prepare to kill the Soul-Eater, expecting to die in battle. Nearly all the characters are faced with sacrifices and threats as they have to choose actions that benefit the common good.

Jennifer Armintrout’s vampire books differ from the usual in several different ways. There are narratives of the vampires themselves; the main hero is not a human in love with a vampire, she’s a vampire in love with her sire. The books are also more about horror and gore than most others; gorey details are still a part of the Blood Ties series, so don’t expect a light and fluffy read. Major bodily harm, blood, death and sex will still be found. I also like how Armintrout switches the point of view of the narrarator with the main characters.

I won’t spoil the ending and say if I cried or everything was “happily ever after” but I will say that I doubt there will be a 5th book.

Midnight Brunch - Casa Dracula Book 2

Midnight Brunch - Milagro Book 2

It’s been about a year since we last heard from Milagro. She is still living with her “not vampire” friends. Oswald's parents and other family members are coming to attend a secret family ceremony that Mil is not allowed to see. The other family members don’t care for her at all and Oswald is about to leave town. Soon after, a rogue family member is trying to do some crazy stuff to Mil and she ends up hiding in the desert.

The first part of the book drove me crazy. Mil embodies the typical female character that always has to be involved in everything, can’t take the word of those she cares for, makes stupid decisions that put herself and others in danger, and doesn’t tell people key information that would help her later. I know this helps to move the plot along.

The middle-end of the book I thought was very entertaining. We meet a few interested characters and are re-aquainted with some charming characters from the first book as well. I probably enjoyed this book more than the first one. Yes, she and others are in danger and may be killed or harmed again, but what type of story would it be if there was no danger?

Midnight brunch also had me laughing out loud. I was a little torn on who Mil should actually end up with. In books I tend to not vote for the “nice guy.” I’m still interested in reading the third one though, which comes out in September.

I would definitely recommend these books!
